a lovely day?

the older i've gotten the more i've realized what a a controversial day valentines is. yesterday i heard lots of opinions and today i'm developing my own. the #1 argument against the holiday seems to be that its too commercial. well, i guess it can be...but its never been that way for me. ever since i was little i handmade intricate and often tiny valentines for each person in my class. one year i remember making one for everyone in my entire high school :O (i attended a pretty small school). also, my family has made its living on retail sales for the past 30 years. handmade jewelry shops, local chocolate factories, and neighborhood flower boutiques depend on days like valentines to get them out of the slump of january. i'm really ok with the holiday. i don't expect dinner out or a big present or even a card. as long as i get a few fresh blooms i'm really quite content.
the roses on the left are from my pops and the bouquet on the right is from tim.

Well said Lara!!!
As one of those neighborhood flower boutiques, I agree, of course—it is a nice boost for an otherwise slow season. However, I didn't see anyone yesterday that seemed burdened by commercialization. Quite the contrary, everyone seemed pleased to be able to choose something that somehow helped to express their feelings.
awe I totally agree. It's a day of "love" not just for romance. :)
I made handmade valentine's & picked up cupcakes for all my special ladies in my life and then delivered them to each of their work places. They were all so surprised. And I had so much fun making their day :)
I love Valentine's day, even when i was single. It's a day to be happy.
pretty blooms! I love them.
