saddled up!

tim is making a lot of progress with little miss sadie. one day she'll be fit to pull a little cart or carry a child on her back. :)

5:04PM

sadie.

check out our donkey on loan from my parents. they bought sadie to protect their sheep but instead she just chased them. so tim brought her to our place and he's going to attempt to break her so i can ride her to work. gas is so high these days. ok, not really on that last part.

new on the farm.

lately, i've been living in great anticipation of spring and all that comes with the season. the farm has been dead and dreary...until today. a set of twin goats were born- a boy and a girl!

and though it may be bleak outside, its bright and colorful inside our home today. :)

12:35PM

the parent's place.

my parents pour their heart and soul into the little piece of earth they call home. their hacienda and the surrounding grounds is full of art in the form of a handmade salvaged wood gate or a hand layed brick walkway. the latest project is a greenhouse my dad is building off the side of their stucco home. i can't wait to see the finished product, particularly because my dad mentioned a bougainvillea colored screen door.

3:00PM

mom & pop's place.

...their new salvaged walk gate and a basket full of basil for making pesto!

dirty work.

yesterday at 3:30am tim woke me up for our 3 hour drive to sandia, tx where the knolle dairy operation is located. tim goes down there as often as twice a month at times to spend the day trimming hooves. mid morning the skies began to pour down rain, and i swear by the time tim was finished he was the absolute dirtiest i have ever seen him! i don't mean to glamorize this work- its hellish! but tim has always been a hard working boy and he makes really good money since its hard to find someone willing to do this kind of work. i go with tim when i can, and this time in particular because he mentioned buying me those fall boots i've been wanting on our way back through san antonio. what a man! ;)

12:15PM

lambs in the garden.

last week the lambs got into my mother's garden. watching her chase them out and scold them made me laugh out loud! :)

12:07PM

we like animals with long floppy ears!

tim bought this newborn goat at the auction barn last night. our baby goats are nursing less and in order to keep the mamma's milk in production he has to get this little one nursing on her. he is in love with her big floppy ears! and speaking of big floppy ears, the puppies are ready to go. if you are interested in one of our beagle mixes, please send letters of reference. no not really, but send me an email. they are mighty cute!

12:42PM

from the garden.

my parent's spend long hours working in their garden and they are richly rewarded.

12:26PM

city slicker and country bumpkin.

this morning i went out to assist and photograph tim feeding the baby goats with milk replacement and milking the mamma goat for one whole quart of fresh goat's milk. even though i've grown up and lived most of my life in a small rural town, i've never felt more like a city girl. especially when tim told me i needed to learn how to milk so i could do it mornings he wouldn't be able to. what???
