we're screen printing!

behold our first two color screen print on paper! we made a lot of mistakes before we finally got to this imperfect result, but i'm pretty satisfied never-the-less. through the whole process tim and i figured out exactly how the light sensitized screen coating actually works so no more walking the screen out in daylight to wash it out and therefore ruining the whole darn thing. i'm now ready to take on the whole world of screen printing; wedding invitations, art prints, t shirts...you name it! since color is such a huge deal to me i went ahead and ordered some custom inks mixed to match my pantone specifications.

i'm starting with these and if they turn out well i'll have a great resource in my back pocket. btw, i definitely recommend the speedball ultimate screen printing kit for getting your feet wet.

david weidman.

urban outfitter's has recently added reproductions of David Weidman's (mid century artist) works of art in the form of wall art and pillows. i immediately got excited when i saw the bird tree wall art, because i recognized it as the original piece my friend angel scored at a new york garage sale. original signed pieces are available on his website here. though i would love to have one, the prices aren't listed and frankly, i'm too afraid to ask.

my single purchase.

though sufficiently tempted to buy many things this past weekend, i came away with one single purchase, this screen printed Austin Renegade Craft Fair print by Mat Daly. not only is this seriously rocking artwork, it also is a great souvenir of Tim's and my first art and craft show together. i'm thinking it will look really nice next to this duck egg keep calm print.

splurged.

speedball ultimate screen printing kit and extra inks available here.

normally i don't like kits, but in this case i thought it would be the best way to begin teaching myself the art of screen printing. i had to buy some extra ink colors too, because kit colors are never good. i'll post a review of this product, once i get a chance to try it out.
